THE SALARY: $11.41 – $16.06 per hour (30 hours per week maximum).
THE POSITION: The Intern I will assist the Solid Waste/Recycling Programs staff with community presentations and public outreach, field surveys, research and various administrative functions.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Perform research; assist with presentations and community outreach events; input data into spreadsheets; assist staff with various administrative functions such as answering phones, filing, creating reports, and documenting meeting minutes; conduct field study visits.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience – High School diploma required. Current enrollment in an accredited college or completion of a degree in environmental science, public administration or related field is desirable. Experience in an office or administrative capacity is desired. Knowledge and Abilities – Must have knowledge of personal computers and basic proficiency in Microsoft Office with the ability to become adept at the use of other computer programs; knowledge of basic administration principals. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, must be self-sufficient, a self-starter; must have the willingness and ability to perform public outreach; strong organizational and multi-tasking skills; ability to provide or assist in public presentations in a variety of settings; flexibility and problem solving abilities; ability to work 10-30 hours per week, including evenings and weekends; ability to conduct field, research and questionnaire surveys; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; and provide quality customer service.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Must possess a valid California driver’s license. SELECTION PROCESS: Following an administrative review of applications, the most qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. The successful candidates will be required to pass a medical examination and submit original documentation to establish both work authorization and identity (per the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986). Criminal background investigations will be conducted, and, in accordance with our Drug Free Workplace Policy, a Drug Screening Test may be required.
