Recreation Program Leaders
(Parks & Community Services Department)

(Two vacancies: One in Sports Programs and One in the Senior Center)

These positions are only open to current City of Moreno Valley employees and former employees affected by the City’s reduction in force.

THE SALARY: $11.49 - $16.18 per hour (20+ hours per week).

THE BENEFITS:   Pro-rated benefits are available through a flexible plan of $3,676 per year which offers medical, dental and vision coverage for the employee and eligible dependents; dependent care and deferred compensation; pro-rated annual leave and holidays; fully paid Long Term Disability; and life insurance equal to two-times annual salary.

AGENCY SHOP AGREEMENT: Non-exempt positions are covered by Agency Shop provisions. Service fees and membership dues are mandatory.

THE POSITION: Reporting directly to the Recreation Coordinator overseeing either Sports or the Senior Center, these positions will organize and supervise recreational activities through the Community Services Department, assist in planning and organizing special programs, and work with individuals in the programs.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Provide direction to staff; organize and supervise structured recreational and playground activities; teach the fundamentals of play and sportsmanship in recreational activities; organize special activity days; assist in planning and organizing holiday and seasonal programs and special community projects; Assist with soliciting donations for special programs, assist in marketing department programs and assist in rental set-up at various sites; keep records and reports; perform related duties as assigned; and provide quality customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience - High school diploma or equivalent. Some college courses relating to physical education or recreation are preferred. One year of related paid or volunteer experience. Experience in working seasonal or special events is desirable. Some supervisory or lead experience is required. Knowledge and Abilities - Must have knowledge of personal computer programs (Class Software, Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel are preferred); basic recreational activities; games, crafts, and group activities; the theories and principles of supervised recreational activities; planning and coordinating programs for students and seniors; and the methods, practices, and equipment used in recreational activities and programs. Must have the ability to use a personal computer; create eye-catching flyers and advertisements; lead, plan, organize, and coordinate recreational programs; stimulate confidence and enthusiasm; mix easily and readily with various age groups; follow written and verbal instructions; get along well with youth, parents, and co-workers; work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required; and provide quality customer service.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: A valid California Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy. Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.
