Moreno Valley Food Pantries and City Unite to Meet Community Need

For immediate release: March 30 2020

With the coronavirus crisis taking a severe economic toll on families and individuals across the nation and here in Moreno Valley, food insecurity has become a very real concern for many who likely never thought they'd need to accept help. To help meet the sudden increase in need, the City of Moreno Valley's new MoVal Meals is already working at capacity, providing weekly food supplements to 500 seniors (60+) and persons with disabilities. Local food pantries are helping thousands more residents.

"Our MoVal Meals program is the newcomer to the work of food assistance that's provided every day in our community by faith-based and non-profit organizations," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "They've been at this a long time and we want to help residents locate the help these organizations are providing."

Following is a list of organizations providing free food assistance in Moreno Valley:

  • Al-Rahma Food Bank, 12125 Day St., Unit U104: Friday, 2-5 p.m.
  • First American Medical Transportation, 24907 Sunnymead Blvd., Ste. E: Daily, 12-2 p.m. 
  • Moreno Valley United Methodist, 10271 Heacock: Mon.-Thurs., 9 a.m.-1 p.m., 4th Sundays, 2-3 p.m.
  • Oasis Food Alliance Pantry, 23750 Alessandro Blvd., Ste C: Mon.-Sat., 7-9 a.m.
  • Sinai Family Center, 12880 Heacock: Tues., 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (ID, income proof, utility bill)
  • St. Christopher Church, 25075 Cottonwood Ave: Mon., 1-3 p.m.
  • Unity of the Faith Christian Outreach Ministries, Inc., 13759 Redlands Blvd: 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 8-10 a.m.; 2nd and 4th Fridays, 8-10 a.m.

Despensas de Comida y la Ciudad de Moreno Valley Se Unen para Satisfacer las Necesidades de la Comunidad

Con la crisis del coronavirus que está afectando gravemente a las familias e individuos en todo el país y aquí en Moreno Valley, la inseguridad alimentaria se ha convertido en una preocupación muy real para muchos que probablemente nunca pensaron que tendrían que aceptar ayuda. Para ayudar a satisfacer el aumento inesperado de la necesidad, el programa nuevo de la Ciudad de Moreno Valley, MoVal Meals, ya está trabajando a toda capacidad, sirviendo paquetes de cuidado semanales a 500 personas mayores (60+) y personas con discapacidades. Las despensas locales de alimentos están ayudando a miles de residentes más.

"Nuestro programa MoVal Meals es el recién llegado al trabajo de asistencia alimentaria que se ofrece todos los días en nuestra comunidad por organizaciones religiosas y otros grupos comunitarios," dijo el Dr. Yxstian Gutiérrez, Alcalde de Moreno Valley. "Han estado en esto por mucho tiempo y queremos ayudar a los residentes a localizar la ayuda que estas organizaciones están ofreciendo"
