Moreno Valley Hosts Delegation from Sister City San Juan de Los Lagos

Mayor Ulises Cabrera hosted a delegation from Moreno Valley’s sister city, San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico, on Monday, February 13.
The delegation included Presidente Municipal Alejandro C. de Anda Lozano of San Juan de Los Lagos and the family of the late Romelio Ruiz, who was instrumental in creating the sister city partnership.
“We were honored to receive this delegation from San Juan de Los Lagos and the family of Romelio Ruiz,” said Mayor Cabrera. “Moreno Valley cherishes our sister city relationship with San Juan de Los Lagos, and we look forward to working together to further bolster our special partnership.”
During the meeting, both cities discussed their respective growth since the sister-city relationship was established and pledged to strengthen the bond between San Juan de Los Lagos and Moreno Valley.
Moreno Valley and San Juan de Los Lagos have been sister cities since 1993. The partnership was the passion project of Ruiz, the former president of the local activist group Hispanos Unidos. Ruiz was known for his humanitarian and community activism and sought to establish a lasting relationship between his hometown of San Juan de Los Lagos and his adopted hometown of Moreno Valley.
Over the years, Moreno Valley and San Juan de Los Lagos have benefitted from programs including student exchanges, visitation of city and community leaders, and the interchanging and enhancing of each city’s culture.
Calle San Juan de Los Lagos, which runs alongside the Moreno Valley Civic Center, and Avenida Romelio Ruiz, which serves as the Civic Center’s entry point, are named in honor of this partnership and Ruiz’s lasting legacy.

Moreno Valley recibe delegación de Ciudad hermana San Juan de Los Lagos
El alcalde Ulises Cabrera recibió a una delegación de la ciudad hermana de Moreno Valley, San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco, México, el lunes 13 de febrero.
La delegación incluyó al presidente Municipal Alejandro C. de Anda Lozano de San Juan de Los Lagos y la familia del difunto Romelio Ruiz, quien fue fundamental en la creación de la asociación de la ciudad hermana.
"Nos sentimos honrados de recibir a esta delegación de San Juan de Los Lagos y a la familia de Romelio Ruiz", dijo el alcalde Cabrera. "Moreno Valley aprecia nuestra relación de ciudad hermana con San Juan de Los Lagos, y esperamos trabajar juntos para reforzar aún más nuestra asociación especial".
Durante la reunión, ambas ciudades discutieron su respectivo crecimiento desde que se estableció la relación de ciudad hermana y se comprometieron a fortalecer el vínculo entre San Juan de Los Lagos y Moreno Valley.
Moreno Valley y San Juan de Los Lagos han sido ciudades hermanas desde 1993. La asociación fue el proyecto de pasión de Ruiz, el ex presidente del grupo activista local Hispanos Unidos. Ruiz era conocido por su activismo humanitario y comunitario y buscó establecer una relación duradera entre su ciudad natal de San Juan de Los Lagos y su ciudad adoptiva de Moreno Valley.
A lo largo de los años, Moreno Valley y San Juan de Los Lagos se han beneficiado de programas que incluyen intercambios estudiantiles, visitas de líderes de la ciudad y la comunidad, y el intercambio y mejora de la cultura de cada ciudad.
La calle San Juan de Los Lagos, que corre junto al Centro Cívico Moreno Valley, y la Avenida Romelio Ruiz, que sirve como punto de entrada del Centro Cívico, se nombraron en honor a esta asociación y al legado duradero de Ruiz.
