This month, we celebrate Mother’s Day. This holiday is one that I definitely hold near and dear to my heart.
To me, Mother's Day is not just about flowers, gifts, or cards; it is a time to reflect on the incredible impact that mothers have on us individually, on our families, and in our communities.
Our moms, mothers, and grandmothers are the pillars of strength and resilience that hold our families together. They are the loving embrace of comfort, care, and compassion. When we were kids, they wiped our tears, bandaged our cuts and scrapes, and gave us that ‘spoonful of sugar’ to help the medicine go down. They were - and always will be - our “home,” regardless of where we live.
The poet Rumi said, “We are born of love. Love is our mother.”
As we celebrate Mother's Day here in the City, let us also recognize the importance of supporting mothers in our community. Whether it is advocating for policies that support maternal health, offering business and employment resources (like we do at the BERC), providing resources for childcare, or offering assistance to single mothers, we must work together to create a community where all mothers feel valued and supported.
On behalf of the city of Moreno Valley, I extend my warmest wishes to all mothers and mother figures out there doing what you do, day in and day out, to keep your families safe and healthy. Your love and devotion enrich our lives in countless ways.

Este mes celebramos el Día de la Madre. Esta festividad es una que definitivamente llevo cerca de mi corazón.
Para mí, el Día de las Madres no se trata solo de flores, regalos o tarjetas; es un momento para reflexionar sobre el increíble impacto que las madres tienen en nosotras individualmente, en nuestras familias y en nuestras comunidades.
Nuestras madres y abuelas son los pilares de fortaleza y resiliencia que mantienen unidas a nuestras familias. Son el abrazo amoroso de consuelo, el cuidado y la compasión. Cuando éramos niños, nos secaban las lágrimas, nos vendaban los cortes y rasguños, y nos daban esa "cucharada de azúcar" para ayudar a que la medicina bajara. Fueron, y siempre serán, nuestro "hogar", independientemente de dónde vivamos.
El poeta Rumi dijo: "Nacemos del amor. El amor es nuestra madre".
Al celebrar el Día de las Madres aquí en la Ciudad, reconozcamos también la importancia de apoyar a las madres en nuestra comunidad. Ya sea abogando por políticas que apoyen la salud materna, ofreciendo recursos comerciales y de empleo (como lo hacemos en el BERC), proporcionando recursos para el cuidado infantil u ofreciendo asistencia a las madres solteras, debemos trabajar juntos para crear una comunidad donde todas las madres se sientan valoradas y apoyadas.
En nombre de la ciudad de Moreno Valley, extiendo mis más cálidos deseos a todas las madres y figuras maternas que están haciendo lo que hacen, día tras día, para mantener a sus familias seguras y saludables. Su amor y devoción enriquecen nuestras vidas de innumerables maneras.
