Police Department Divisions
Community Services Division
The Community Services Unit is responsible for crime prevention programs, community engagement, the volunteer program, the Police Explorer Program, and the Neighborhood Watch program.
Community engagement includes coordinating activities and events that connect Moreno Valley residents and local law enforcement personnel. Key events include the Public Safety Expo, National Night Out, Trunk or Treat, and Holiday Cheer.
Volunteer program incudes the following programs:
- Citizen's Patrol Unit
This unit acts as a deterrent to crime by conducting high visibility uniformed patrols in marked police units. Citizen Patrol volunteers are trained in laws of arrest, traffic control, identification of gang members, crime scene management, recognition of DUI drivers, identification of graffiti and proper radio traffic while communicating with police personnel. - Station Volunteers
Station volunteers assist with administrative work at the MVPD station. Some help the investigations unit with filing, tracking of offenders and putting together "mug shot" folders. Others assist Logistics with the issuing of equipment, the maintenance of vehicles and cleaning weapons. Yet other station volunteers assist the Business Office with data inputting, fingerprinting and filing. - Police Explorer Program
Explorers are active in community functions and assist different units within the MVPD. Applicants must be between 14 and 20 years of age. The Explorers meet every Wednesday night at 6 pm at the Moreno Valley Police Station.
The department continuously accepts applications to join our these programs from City residents.
Volunteers commit to 12 hours of participation each month, including attending monthly team meetings. Interested applicants must be willing to attend a six-week course totaling 56 hours of specialized training.
